Fox major of the KBStV Rhaetia Munich association. (Start of the winter semester 1924/25).

A fox major (or fux major ) in a student union is responsible for advertising and looking after the offspring, the foxes (or foxes). Most of the time, an experienced but still studying member of the association is entrusted with this task.

Designations

Fox major of the KDStV Burgundia

In some fraternities, for example in Heidelberg and in the South German Cartel , the designation Fuchskranzchenführer or Fuchs (en) kräzchendeichsler is also used . For German-Baltic connections , the fox major is called Oldermann . In the Netherlands and Flanders there is the schachtmeester and the schachtentemmer .

status

In the case of non-striking connections, the fox major is often charged , so has the status of a board member and must therefore be an “active person”. For connections to other associations of the Cub Major is often only a charge similar function, which is also one of inactive or Old men can be executed.

tasks

Seating arrangement in a smaller pub with a "fox stall"

The fox Major stops - usually once a week - a fox hour , even Fuchsenconvent or fox wreath called, from where the foxes the basics of Verbindungsstudententums be brought home, taught traditions and history of their own federal and befriended compounds are presented. The fox lesson serves to prepare for the boy test (sometimes also called fox test ), which every fox has to pass before he is accepted into the association as a full member ( boy , corps boy , etc.).

In many connections, the fox major sits at a pub or a Kommers with the foxes at the lower end of the pub table across from the presidium. This is called "fox stable" by Buxen and "fox table" by the Kösener Corps . In this case, the fox major supports the first charged person in managing the event.

In the past, one of the tasks of the fox major also included educating his foxes in the corps spirit , at least that's what it is reported from Solothurn. Public chastisement was also a means of showing how much the members felt connected to the rules of their association. In his biography of Hanns Martin Schleyer, Lutz Hachmeister underlines these educational tasks of the fox major once again: They should also have rules of behavior, such as B. tablecloths, serving, pouring and dealing with the ladies are taught.

Identification mark

In some connections, the fox major has a special color . Sometimes he wears a special headgear that differs from the regular student hat of the other fraternity members. Mostly this is a hat that is adorned with a foxtail that runs around or behind . In exceptional cases, the bicorn also occurs. In addition, a fox ribbon is often worn crossed with the boy’s ribbon.

In some Swiss connections, the fox major wears a fox fur crossed with the lady's ribbon in addition to the fox tail on the headgear.

The fox major has the designation "FM" after his name and the circle in many connections . This designation can usually be "bracketed", which means that after the end of his term of office (one semester) the holder may use the designation in parentheses after his name for his entire life, if at the end of the semester - after certain criteria have been met - by the Convent its connection was decided.
