The Gädebehner See is located in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, northwest of Neubrandenburg in the municipality of Knorrendorf , between the districts of Gädebehn and Kleeth. The eponymous place Gädebehn is located near the northeast bank. The body of water is a channel lake and was created during the last Ice Age ( Vistula Ice Age ) from a former meltwater channel that was permanently filled with water after the ice receded. The lake has an approximate length of 900 meters and a width of about 240 meters in the northern part of the lake. The lake tapers noticeably towards the south. The body of water is part of the Kastorfer-Möllner chain of lakes and was probably previously connected to the Möllner See and Kastorfer See . The lake is a silting lake with consistently swampy bank areas. A former Slavic castle is located near the east bank in the silting zone of the lake .
