The Möllner See is located in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, northwest of Neubrandenburg in the municipality of Mölln . The place Mölln is located near the south bank. The body of water is a channel lake and was created during the last Ice Age ( Vistula Ice Age ) from a former meltwater channel that was permanently filled with water after the ice receded. The lake has an approximate length of 1.3 kilometers and a width of 300 meters in the northern part of the lake. There is a large wooded area on the west bank. The body of water is part of the Kastorfer-Möllner chain of lakes and was probably previously connected to the Gädebehner See and Kastorfer See . The lake is a silting lake with consistently swampy bank areas. On the eastern shore of the Möllner See there is a Slavic fortification from the 7th to 12th centuries. It is a silted island castle.
