Gérard Chabanon
Gérard Chabanon MAfr (born March 5, 1948 in Vals-près-le-Puy , Haute-Loire department , France) is a Roman Catholic religious . He was Superior General of the White Fathers from 2004 to 2010 .
Life
Gérard Chabanon joined the Order of the White Fathers (MAfr) and completed his novitiate in Friborg, Switzerland, in 1970/71 . He studied theology in Totteridge near London , where he took his missionary oath on April 17, 1976. On June 27, 1976 he was ordained a priest in Le Puy and worked as a missionary in various offices in Tanzania until 1996 .
In 1981 he completed postgraduate studies in social development at Saint Francis Xavier University, Canada, and taught at St. Edward's religious school in Totteridge, London. In 1998 he was appointed Provincial in France.
In 2004 he succeeded François Richard as Superior General of the White Fathers. The General Chapter of the “Society of Missionaries of Africa” elected Richard Baawobr on May 31, 2010 in Rome as his successor.
Until 2010 he was Chancellor of the Pontifical Institute for Arab and Islamic Studies (PISAI) in Rome.
