Gérard Detourbet
Gérard Detourbet (born September 28, 1946 in Paris ; † December 5, 2019 ) was a French automotive manager who had worked for Renault in various positions since 1971 and from January 1, 2012 as Managing Director of the Renault-Nissan Alliance A-segment development unit acted. In his previous role as director of Renault for entry-level cars, he became known as the "father" of the Dacia projects Logan and Duster and as the head of development for the Renault Kwid .
In 2014, the low-price segment built up by Gérard Detourbet at Renault achieved a share of 42 percent of group sales. Renault also carried the profits in this segment through the 2009 automobile crisis.
Life path
Gérard Detourbet was initially a mathematics lecturer at a university before joining Renault's computer training center in 1971. Later he went through a number of positions within the Renault group. Among them was that of the developer responsible for the body of the Renault 25 . In 1991 he became product manager for engines and in 1997 for the drive train .
Since 2003 Detourbet has been responsible for the development of the X90 (Logan) project with Renault, which had bought the Dacia automobile factory from the Romanian government in 1999 and wanted to use this subsidiary in the low-wage country of Romania to build a modern, but very affordable entry-level car for Eastern Europe and the developing countries. In 2004 Dacia sold 22,833 Logans in Romania. Over 145,000 vehicles were sold in 2005 and then 367,000 in 2007. The Logan began to find cost-conscious buyers in the countries of Western Europe as well. In addition, other body variants such as the Sandero were offered based on the Logan . In 2015 Dacia sold over 550,000 vehicles worldwide.
