Göran Therborn

Göran Therborn (born September 23, 1941 in Kalmar , Sweden ) is a Swedish sociologist and since 2006 professor of sociology at the University of Cambridge .

He studied sociology , political science and economics at Lund University (Sweden). After his habilitation, he taught from 1974 to 1981 as a lecturer ( associate professor ) for sociology at the University of Lund, then as a professor for political science at the University of Nijmegen (Netherlands). From 1987 to 2003 he was Professor of Sociology at the University of Gothenburg and from 2003 until his move to Cambridge Professor of Sociology at the University of Uppsala .

Therborn was visiting professor in numerous countries in Western and Eastern Europe, in the Americas as well as in Asia and Australia. He is one of the internationally known social theorists and sociologists of Scandinavia.
