General view of the village of Görmeli

Görmeli is a village on the slope of the Taurus Mountains southeast of Ermenek in the Turkish province of Karaman . It consists of the six districts Boyalık, Tekke, Kışla, Tuztaşı, Köyyakası and Nısa. The center is Tuztaşı.

Geographical location

The village is located on the main road from Ermenek to Gülnar and is about 18 km from Ermenek and 90 km from the touristic places of the Mediterranean region in Anamur . The place is located in a mountainous and wooded area. Due to the sufficient rainfall and the good soil, many different types of vegetables and fruits can be grown. The place is traditionally agricultural.

history

The exact time of the original settlement of Görmelis is unknown, it is believed that the village goes back to a relocation from Adana by the Beylik of the Karamanids several centuries ago. The Ala Köprü bridge (also Görmeli Köprüsü ) is about 5 km away and is traced back to the Karamanids. With a length of 27 m and a width of 4.70 m, the bridge can definitely be described as a remarkable achievement of that time, but it will sink into the Ermenek reservoir, which is currently under construction.

There is also the historic Mennan Castle in the Nısa district. Mennan means safe place in German . The castle was built with meticulously hewn stones on a steep rock. This castle was conquered by the Karamanids for the Ottoman Gedik Ahmet Pasha , whereupon Pir Ahmet Bey probably committed suicide in the castle. The castle is in poor condition, largely due to treasure hunters.

Culture

Batırma is a traditional dish

In Görmeli you can enjoy the traditional Batırma dish . It consists of small pieces of wheat, tomatoes, pepper, parsley, sesame seeds and walnuts. These ingredients are mixed and kneaded with cold water. It is served with fresh peppers, cucumber, boiled cabbage, aubergines, tomatoes and boiled grape leaves. Another traditional dish is called tarhana . It is made from minced meat and potatoes. The ingredients are mixed with wheat flour, tomato paste, onions, pepper and parsley. This dough is kneaded, then pieces are shaped by hand and roasted on charcoal.

economy

Most of the inhabitants live from the cultivation and trade in fruit and vegetables, dairy farming and animal husbandry. The grapes of Görmeli are well known, there are many vineyards, but apples, figs, walnuts and pomegranates are also grown. Each family also has animals, some goats, a cow and chickens. In recent years, vaccinated, special fruit tree saplings have been planted in the higher parts of the village.
