Mediterranean region (Turkey)
The Turkish Mediterranean region ( Turkish Akdeniz Bölgesi - literally translated "White Sea Area") is a geographical area of Turkey . This region represents around 15.4% of the Turkish state territory. With an area of 120,000 km², it ranks fourth both in area and in population comparison of the seven regions.
This region officially exists after the Geography Congress in Ankara in 1941 and is divided into two further subregions or areas.
