Andrew Davis (born November 21, 1946 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American film director , producer and screenwriter. He was best known for his action films Nico (1988), Red Alert (1992) and On the Run (1993).

Life

Davis is the son of Nathan and Metta Davis, brother of Richard Davis and Jo Ellen Friedman. After graduating from high school, Davis studied journalism at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign . Studs Terkel , a friend of his parents' friends, recommended Davis to Haskell Wexler , who made Medium Cool in Chicago in 1968 . Davis worked as a 2nd unit cameraman and worked in the following years as a cameraman, among other things for Sesame Street , later on productions by Gene Corman and Menahem Golan .

During the filming of Jonathan Kaplan's Over the Edge (1978), he met his future wife Adrianne Levesque, who worked as a costume designer.

In 1978 he made his debut as a director with the musical Stony Island . Two years earlier he had written his first script for the film Paco . In 1984 he was involved in the script for Beat Street .

In 1994 he was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for the film On the Run .
