Geographical location and hydrography

The Görnsee lies between the places Prützke and Grebs, both places are districts of the municipality of Kloster Lehnin in the district of Potsdam-Mittelmark in the state of Brandenburg. The lake lies entirely within the Prützke district, the Grebs district borders on the northeast bank. The lake is closer to Grebs. The development of Grebs extends on the southeast bank with the settlement Am Wiesengrund to about 100 m from the lake. Federal motorway 2 runs only around 300 m south of the lake . The Rietzer See rest area is also located there.

The Görnsee is 16.2 hectares and has a depth of 3.5 m. The mean lake level is 30.8  m above sea level. NHN . It is surrounded by a belt of green and reeds, and the bank is therefore only accessible at one point on the southeast bank. The lake has no inflow, but an artificially created outflow to the Rietzer See . The trophic index of the lake is given as 3.5, which corresponds to the borderline eutrophic / polytrophic. It is not stably layered.

history

The name is derived from an old Polish basic form * Gor'n- zu * gora Berg. Directly south of the Görnsee lies the 60 m high Görnberg, southwest of the 58.5 m high Planberg. Here the mountain name could have been transferred to the lake. In the Schmettauschen map from 1767/87 it is referred to as Gernow See. In 1842 in the Urmes table sheet 3642 Lehnin the lake was already called Görn See . Older documentary mentions are not available. About 500 m east of the Görnsee on Grebser district the Urmes table sheet d. old village . Presumably there was a late Slavic-early German settlement here, which was abandoned with the construction of the planned village Grebs.
