Gosta Bohman

Bo Gösta Bohman (born January 15, 1911 in Stockholm , † August 12, 1997 ibid) was a Swedish politician. He was party leader of the Moderata Samlingspartiet from 1970 to 1981, Swedish Finance Minister from 1976 to 1981 and a member of the Reichstag from 1958 to 1991.

After elementary school, Gösta Bohman underwent military training in Kristianstad and was dismissed as a reserve officer in 1932. Four years later, he put his degree as a lawyer at the University of Stockholm from. From 1936 to 1939 he completed his legal clerkship at the district court ( häradsrätten ) of Södra Roslagen, after which he was drafted as a lieutenant for military service. In 1948 Bohman became managing director ( vice Verkställande direktör ) of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce until he was elected chairman of the Moderata samlingspartiet in 1970 .

Political career

As early as 1956, Bohman was to become a candidate for the Conservatives in the Reichstag . It was not until 1958 that he accepted the offer and moved into the Second Chamber of the Swedish Reichstag for Stockholm. From 1961 to 1963 he was chairman of the Stockholm right-wing party . From 1965 to 1970 he was chairman of the powerful state committee of the Reichstag. With the abolition of the bicameral system, the State Committee was also dissolved. In 1970 Bohman moved to the First Chamber of Parliament, where he became leader of the Conservatives. After his party's catastrophic election results in September 1970, Bohman ousted Yngve Holmberg from the party chairmanship. The party turned more towards the political center, changed its name to Moderata Samlingspartiet ("Moderate Collection Party") and regained its profile.

In 1976 Gösta Bohman finally succeeded in changing power in Swedish politics. Bohman, together with Thorbjörn Fälldin and Ola Ullsten, formed the first non- social democratic government in Sweden for over 40 years. Gösta Bohman received the post of finance minister. In the tripartite government that followed in 1979, Bohman was finance minister until 1981. The moderates finally left the government after the other bourgeois parties had agreed with the Social Democrats on a reform of the marginal tax rates . In the same year 1981 Gösta Bohman resigned as party chairman. His successor was Ulf Adelsohn . In 1991 Bohman resigned from the Reichstag.
