Thorbjörn Fälldin
Nils Olof Thorbjörn Fälldin [ ˌnils ˈuːlɔf ˈtuːrbjøːɳ ˈfɛlˌdin ] (born April 24, 1926 in Högsjö ; † July 23, 2016 in Ramvik ) was a Swedish politician who held the post of Prime Minister from 1976 to 1978 and again from 1979 to 1982 .
Member of the Reichstag since 1958 and party chairman of the Agrarian Center Party ( Centerpartiet ) since 1971 , the Norrland farmer Fälldin became Prime Minister after the Reichstag election in 1976 as the first non-social democratic politician in 40 years. He led a coalition of the Center Party, the Liberal People's Party and the conservative moderates . Due to disagreement over the question of the use of nuclear energy - Fälldin himself was a prominent opponent of nuclear power - the coalition broke up in 1978 and was replaced by the liberal minority government Ola Ullstens .
In the 1979 election , the bourgeois parties again won a majority, and although the Moderates and no longer the Center Party were the largest bourgeois faction, Fälldin was again elected Prime Minister of a bourgeois coalition of three. The second Fälldin government fell apart, like the first, after two years, this time after a dispute over tax policy. Fälldin formed a minority government made up of the Center Party and Liberals, which was tolerated in parliament by the moderates until the 1982 election .
After further losses in the 1985 Reichstag election , Fälldin resigned from the office of party chairman.
