Felix Teodor Hamrin (born January 14, 1875 in Mönsterås , † November 27, 1937 in Jönköping ) was a Swedish politician and Prime Minister of Sweden .

Studies and professional career

The son of a leather goods dealer graduated from the business school in Gothenburg . He then founded a wholesale business in Jönköping , which he operated from 1903 to 1930. At times he also worked in the Chamber of Commerce of Småland and Blekinge .

Political career

Member of the Reichstag and Minister

Hamrin began his political career in 1911 when he was elected member of the Second Chamber of the Reichstag . There he represented the Liberal Association ( Frisinnade Landsföreningen ) in the constituency of the Jönköping Province until 1914 .

From 1918 until his death in 1937 he was a member of the First Chamber of the Reichstag. After the split in the Liberal Collection Party in 1924, he joined the Frisinnade folkpartiet led by Carl Gustaf Ekman , of which he later became party chairman.

In June 1928, Prime Minister Ekman appointed him Minister of Commerce in his cabinet, to which he was a member until October 1928. In the second Ekman government from 1930 to 1932 he was Minister of Finance.

Prime Minister from 1932 and Liberal Party Chairman

When Ekman had to resign on August 6, 1932, one month before the Reichstag election because of the crisis surrounding the match monopoly Ivar Kreuger , King Gustav V commissioned Hamrin as Prime Minister to form a transitional government .

After the Reichstag election and a severe defeat by the Liberal Party, he resigned as Prime Minister on September 26, 1932. His term of office, which lasted only 50 days, was the shortest term of office of a Swedish Prime Minister to date. In this short time he tried to stabilize the economy due to the global economic crisis and the collapse of the Kreuger monopoly.

After Ekman resigned as chairman of the Free People's Party in 1933, Hamrin succeeded it. After the unification of the liberal parties to form the People's Party ( Folkpartiet ) , he was their first chairman from 1934 to January 1935.

He was then from 1934 to 1937 District President ( Landshövding ) of the Jönköping Province .
