Karl Staaff

Karl Albert Staaff (born January 21, 1860 in Stockholm , † October 4, 1915 ibid) was a Swedish politician of the Liberala samlingspartiet and twice (1905-1906 and 1911-1914) Prime Minister of Sweden .

Karl Albert Staaff was the son of Albert Staaff and Mina Schöne. He studied law at Uppsala University .

Staaff was a member of the Reichstag from 1896 to 1915 and chairman of the Liberal Party from 1907 to 1915. In 1905 he succeeded Christian Lundeberg as Swedish Prime Minister, but had to hand over the office to Arvid Lindman the following year . From 1905 to 1906 Staaff also held the office of Minister of Justice .

In 1911 he succeeded in replacing Lindman in the office of Prime Minister. In 1914 he resigned in protest against King Gustav V's armaments policy (Borggård crisis). He was succeeded on February 17, 1914 by the conservative politician Hjalmar Hammarskjöld .
