Günter Bresnik (born April 21, 1961 in Vienna ) is an Austrian tennis coach . For many years he was the captain of the Austrian Davis Cup team . His most successful protégé to date was Dominic Thiem , whom he trained from his childhood until 2019.

Life

The son of a doctor's household and a graduate of an elite high school studied medicine for eight semesters at the University of Vienna . Günter Bresnik lives with his wife and four daughters in Innermanzing in Lower Austria.

Career

In his coaching career since the mid-1980s, Bresnik has looked after players such as Boris Becker , Henri Leconte , Patrick McEnroe , Patrick Baur , Uladsimir Waltschkou , Amos Mansdorf , Horst Skoff and Stefan Koubek . From 1992 to 1993 and 1998 to 2004, Bresnik was the captain of the Austrian Davis Cup team , and in 1998 and 1999 the Lower Austrian was also the sports director of the Austrian Tennis Association . Today Bresnik runs an international tennis academy in the southern part of Vienna with around 30 protégés. On October 21, 2016, Bresnik's first book was published with the title "The Dominic Thiem Method". In it he describes Dominic Thiem's ​​career path from eight-year-old boy to world-class athlete as well as his own path to becoming an internationally recognized tennis coach. In April 2019, Bresnik and Thiem ended their collaboration.
