Günter Czichowski

Günter Czichowski (born March 15, 1942 in the district of Wismar ) is a retired German mathematician and former football player for the second division club BSG Einheit / Kernkraftwerk Nord Greifswald .

Soccer player

Czichowski already played football as a schoolboy at the company sports community (BSG) Traktor in Zurow, Mecklenburg . Abitur and university studies interrupted his footballing activities until 1965. After completing his studies and taking on an assistant position at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald in 1965, he resumed football and joined the second-rate GDR league team, Einheit Greifswald. There he played his first second division game on October 3, 1965 as a left winger in the encounter between BSG Einheit Greifswald - BSG Motor Babelsberg (0: 1). Czichowski had joined the Greifswalders at an unfavorable time, because after a desolate season, the BSG unit was relegated to the third-class Rostock district league in the summer of 1966 . After that, it took two years before the rise again succeeded. In these two years Czichowski became one of the best strikers in the district league, in 1966/67 he scored 19 and in 1967/68 27 goals. In the following GDR league seasons, Czichowski was the most successful attacker of Greifswalder BSG as the standard left winger, which from 1968 called itself "Kernkraftwerk Nord". He completed his last GDR league season in 1971/72, in which he was used again in 19 of 22 point games played and scored his last two goals. In his five GDR league seasons he had completed 116 out of 138 possible point games and scored 33 goals.

Czichowski passed the Abitur at the workers and farmers faculty in Halle (Saale) . After a practical year in Leuna , he began studying mathematics at the Humboldt University in East Berlin . As a graduate mathematician, he came to the Ernst Moritz Arndt University in Greifswald in 1965. There he was mathematics assistant professor and in 1969 under in the section Helmut Boseck with the thesis " to representation theory of groups two-row matrices with coefficients of a finite commutative ring with identity " to the doctor of mathematics (Dr. nat. Rer.) PhD . In the course of the replacement of all professorships after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Czichowski was transferred to the professorship and chair for computer algebra of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Greifswald University in October 1992 . He held the chair until March 2005.
