Günter Hager

Günter Hager (born September 16, 1943 in Abtsdorf ; † February 19, 2017 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German legal scholar .

Life

Günter Hager studied law at the University of Munich from 1964 , but later moved to the University of Freiburg , where he passed his first state examination in law in 1968. After his second state examination in 1971, he worked at Ernst von Caemmerer's chair in Freiburg . There he obtained his doctorate in 1974. iur. After four more years as Caemmerer's assistant, Günter Hager completed his habilitation in 1978 and received the venia legendi for the subjects of civil law, commercial law, comparative law and international private law.

Günter Hager then worked briefly in 1979 as a scientific advisor and professor at the University of Cologne . In 1980 he followed the call to the University of Marburg , which he left in 1992 in favor of a professorship at the University of Jena . In 1995, Hager accepted an appointment at the University of Freiburg. Until his retirement in 2011, he held a professorship in civil and comparative law and was also director of the Institute for Foreign and International Private Law, Department I. Günter Hager also held visiting professorships at the universities of Houston , Strasbourg , Poitiers and Nanjing , among others . Sonja Meier was the successor to his chair in Freiburg . His students include Florian Asche and Felix Maultzsch .

Works and works (selection)

Günter Hager's publications focus on German civil law and international private law. In both areas of law, one focus is on sales law, which is already clear from his dissertation, his habilitation thesis and also from Hager's comments in the commentary on the UN sales law published by Peter Schlechtriem and Ingeborg Schwenzer .

After his retirement, Günter Hager dealt increasingly with questions of ethics and environmental and nature protection. He began studying theology at the Catholic Academy Freiburg and published on the Internet platform JOSHA to the editors he was, among other things, an essay on the environment encyclical "laudato si" by Pope Francis from a legal perspective and a commentary on the judgment of the Higher Administrative Court of North Rhine-Westphalia for Practice of killing male chicks that he identified as illegitimate. One focus of Hager was on researching the reasonable cause in terms of the Animal Welfare Act.
