Günter Kalbaum

Günter Kalbaum (born October 5, 1920 in Berlin ; † June 27, 2010 in Hamburg ) was a German manager and from 1975 to 1985 chairman of the board of Hamburg-Mannheimer Versicherungs AG (today ERGO ).

Live and act

Kalbaum grew up in Hamburg and was drafted into the Wehrmacht after graduating from the Johanneum School of Academics . After military service in World War II and subsequent imprisonment , he studied in Hamburg Business Administration , graduating with a degree in business administration in 1952. 1955 he passed the exam for tax advisors and 1956 for auditors from. From the beginning of the 1950s he worked for Deutsche Revision und Treuhand AG , since 1966 Kalbaum was a deputy member of the board. From January 1971 he was a member of the board of the Hamburg-Mannheimer Versicherungs-AG (HM): Asset position and from 1975 until his retirement in 1985 he was chairman of the board of this company. Until 1981 he was also chairman of the board of the Hamburg-Mannheimer Sachversicherungs-AG, after which he was on the board of directors. He was chairman of the supervisory board of Bausparkasse Heimbau AG (sold to Wüstenrot from 1985 ) from 1975 to 1985 (previously as a member of the supervisory board), and also chairman of the supervisory board of Deutsche Krankenversicherung (DKV) from 1975 to 1985. He was then a member of the supervisory board of Hamburg-Mannheimer Insurance until 1993.

In 1979 Kalbaum was elected to the board of the employers' association of insurance companies in Germany. HM, which he managed and in which Munich Reinsurance and Allianz Versicherung , both in Munich , played a major role , was the second largest life insurance company in Germany.

From 1985 to 1993 he was honorary chairman of the newly founded association for the promotion of insurance science.
