Günter Schardey

Günter Schardey (born April 27, 1929 in Moers ; † February 24, 2015 ) was a German lawyer. From 1991 to 1994 he was President of the German Lawyers' Association .

Life

Schardey was born in Moers in 1929 as the son of a farmer. After attending schools in Rheinhausen , Bonn , Unna and Homberg, he studied law in Frankfurt am Main , Heidelberg and Bonn . In 1954 he passed the first state examination in law, followed by the great state examination in 1959. In the same year he was admitted to the Moers bar. In 1961 he received his doctorate with the dissertation The compatibility of the priority of the male sex in court succession with the principle of equality of the sexes according to Article 3, paragraphs 2 and 3 of the Basic Law under Friedrich Wilhelm Bosch at the University of Bonn. Within his law firm, Schardey specialized in contract law . In addition, he was committed to his profession. From 1971 to 1991 he was a member of the presidium of the Düsseldorf Bar Association , most recently as its vice-president. 1979 Schardey was elected to the board of the German Bar Association (DAV). In 1983 he was elected treasurer of the DAV and thus moved up to the presidium of the DAV. In 1991 he succeeded Erhard Senninger as President of the DAV, in whose function he was active until 1994. In the second year of his tenure, he founded the Working Group on Family and Inheritance Law. In addition, during Schardey's tenure, lawyers from the new federal states were accepted after German reunification. From 1979 he also worked as co-editor of the legal journal FamRZ .

For his services, Schardey was honored with the Order of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany in November 1989 .
