Werner Deuchler

Werner Johannes Deuchler (born June 21, 1916 in Tübingen ; † May 31, 1992 in Hamburg ) was a German lawyer and president of the German Bar Association .

Werner Deuchler was the son of the educator Gustaf Deuchler and his wife Ilse, née Krauss.

When his father accepted a professorship for philosophy, psychology and education at the University of Hamburg , the family moved to Hamburg. Deuchler made his Abitur at the Wilhelm Gymnasium . After an accident during military service in 1937 led to the retirement, Deuchler studied law and economics in Hamburg. He put the Great state examination in 1943 to study visits in Munich and Geneva and the promotion of Dr. iur. from. In 1944 the doctorate to Dr. rer pol. His father was released in 1945 as an active National Socialist.

After working at the German-Swiss Chamber of Commerce in Zurich as Counsel he joined in 1948 in Hamburg as a lawyer in a still existing firm one, in the later a son was Deuchlers partner.

Activities in the field of law and profession

Deuchler was a member of the commission for the preparation of the Hamburg constitution in 1946/1947. From 1955 to 1970 Deuchler was on the board of the Hamburg Lawyers' Association, which he chaired as the successor to Emil von Sauer from 1965 to 1970. In this capacity he succeeded in enforcing the (re) introduction of simultaneous admission, i.e. the simultaneous admission of a lawyer to different types of courts, in Hamburg. Also in 1970, as Emil von Sauer's successor, Deuchler became President of the German Lawyers' Association. Deuchler was also chairman of the advisory board of the German lawyers and notaries insurance (DANV) as well as the supervisory board of the Hans Soldan Foundation . His very international legal work led to Deuchler being elected the first President of the International Bar Association in Vancouver in 1974 .

honors and awards

In 1976 Deuchler was awarded the Great Cross of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Silver Médaille de la Ville de Paris . In 1977 he received the Great Silver Medal of Honor of the Republic of Austria for his efforts at the Vienna Legal Discussions . The Hamburg Lawyers' Association awarded him the Emil von Sauer Prize .
