Günter Seibold (born December 11, 1936 in Stuttgart; † June 20, 2013 ) was a German football player . The defensive player won the DFB Cup with VfB Stuttgart in 1958 and played a total of 133 league games (2 goals) in the Bundesliga from 1963 to 1968.

career

The left-back started his career at SpVgg Cannstatt . He joined VfB Stuttgart at the age of 12. For the 1958/59 season he was taken over from the amateur team in the top division. The reliable defender played his first competitive game for VfB on June 25, 1958. He won the South German Cup with the "Reds" with 2-1 goals in Mannheim against Schweinfurt 05 and Stuttgart was thus qualified for the semi-finals of the DFB Cup. In the Oberliga Süd, Seibold made his debut on the third match day of the 1958/59 round, on August 31, 1958, in the 4-0 home defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt . In the semi-finals of the DFB Cup, coach Georg Wurzer's team prevailed 4-1 at 1. FC Saarbrücken on September 21. In the cup final on November 16 in Kassel against Fortuna Düsseldorf , he formed the defensive of VfB, who won 4: 3 after extra time , together with Günter Sawitzki , Rolf Eisele , Oskar Hartl , Rudolf Hoffmann and captain Robert Schlienz .

At the end of his first league round, 1958/59, he finished 5th with the cup winner and had played in 28 of 30 round games. On May 20, 1959 he was invited by the DFB to an international match in Krakow against Poland in the jersey of the German junior national team U-23 . In the 4-2 success he played alongside players such as goalkeeper Helmut Traska , fellow defender Friedel Rausch , center runner Ferdinand Wenauer and strikers Albert Brülls , Günter Herrmann and Gert Dörfel . With the catch-up game on May 5, 1963 at Kickers Offenbach , the chapter of the South Football League ended. Together with Hans Eisele , Seibold was used in all 30 games under coach Kurt Baluses in the last season of the league .

In the Oberliga Süd Seibold came from 1958 to 1963 with the Stuttgart to a total of 122 games in which he scored a goal. Seibold is a member of the group of players who were active on the field on the debut day of the Bundesliga, August 24, 1963. He lost the opening game with 0-2 goals at FC Schalke 04 .

Seibold played the last Bundesliga game on March 30, 1968 in a 4-1 home win against Alemannia Aachen . The VfB defense consisted of the players Günter Sawitzki , Hans Eisele, Theodor Hoffmann , Seibold and Gerd Menne . In the trade fair cup , he was active in five games against Odense, Dunfermline and Burnley FC from 1964 to 1966 .

He is described as always reliable, tough in duels and relentless in the fulfillment of his task. Seibold was not only versatile on the field, but also completed an apprenticeship as a technical assistant parallel to his career as a footballer and later became sales manager at Daimler-Benz. After his retirement he devoted himself passionately to painting and also earned merits as a hobby painter. Later he was a member of the VfB Honorary Council .

In 1969 he moved to SpVgg 07 Ludwigsburg ; in the 1970/71 season he was player-coach at SV Rehnenhof .
