Günter Smolla

Professor Günther Smolla 1999

Günter Smolla (born August 10, 1919 in Breslau ; † December 30, 2006 in Königstein im Taunus ) was a German prehistoric scientist.

Life

After studying in Breslau , Vienna and Bonn , he obtained his doctorate in his hometown in 1941. From 1946 to 1955 he worked as an assistant at the Institute for Prehistory and Protohistory at the University of Tübingen .

In 1955 he received his habilitation at the University of Tübingen. He was appointed director of the Nassau antiquities collection in Wiesbaden . From 1956 he taught at the University of Frankfurt as a lecturer at the chair for ancient history and as a professor at the seminar for prehistory. He was a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute and a corresponding member of the Anthropological Society in Vienna.

Günter Smolla made the works of Gordon Childe known in Germany in his "Neolithic Cultural Appearances" and at the same time developed ideas about the Neolithic process. He also dealt with the prehistory of Africa and worldwide comparative studies.

At Günter Smolla, Günther Bernhard, Turan Efe, Ernst Ross, Rudolf Gerharz, Christine Peschel, Manfred Korfmann and Fritz-Rudolf Herrmann did their doctorates .
