Günter Sponheuer

Günter Sponheuer (* 1945 in Essen ) is a freelance German painter and graduate designer.

Life

After studying painting at the Folkwang School of Design in Essen , the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and the Free Academy in The Hague , Günter Sponheuer co-founded the "Kunsthaus Essen eV". Here and in the “Business Association of Fine Artists NRW” he was first chairman for many years. Since the mid-1970s, he has been imparting his in-depth knowledge of painting in seminars and advanced training courses and has published books on the subject of oil painting .

The motifs of his works are very different. His work includes landscape pictures, everyday scenes, but also war scenes, such as the three-part picture painted, which shows the city of Kobane in northern Syria. He also experiments with reverse glass painting, in which he layers acrylic glass panes on a painted surface so that the picture creates an amazing effect of depth.

Günter Sponheuer has been exhibiting his pictures in solo and group exhibitions in Germany , Austria and the Netherlands since 1967 . a. in the Kunsthaus Essen and in the Museum Folkwang in Essen. He lives in Fürstenau .

In 1967 Günter Sponheuer won the Folkwang Prize.
