Günther Becker (politician)

Günther Becker (* 1944 in Braunfels ; † September 12, 2002 ) was a German politician ( SPD ) and a member of the Hessian state parliament .

Life

In Braunfels he went to school up to secondary school leaving certificate and then took up middle service at the Deutsche Bundespost . In the second educational path he did his Abitur at the Hessen College. Becker then studied law and became a lawyer.

politics

In 1969 Becker joined the SPD and was chairman of the Gießen SPD from 1988 to 2001 .

Since 1979 he has been a city councilor in Giessen. There he was a member of the main, finance, economic and legal committee from 1993 to the beginning of 2002.

From 1987 on he represented the constituency of Gießen-Stadt as a member of the Hessian state parliament . In the 1995 elections, Becker was able to move in as a direct candidate with a narrow majority (SPD with 37.8% before the CDU with 35.3%). Four years later, he was able to confirm the election result (37.7%), but was surpassed by his political opponent Klaus Peter Möller (CDU, 40.6%). But he moved into parliament via the state list.

He exercised his mandates as a member of the state parliament and city council until his death.
