Günther Gorenzel-Simonitsch (* 10. October 1971 in Graz ) is an Austrian football coach and official , who since the beginning of February 2019 Managing Director of the TSV 1860 München is after he had been since January 2018 athletic director.

Career

Günther Gorenzel studied at the Vienna Sports Institute and worked as an assistant coach at the third division club FC St. Veit before he became Walter Schachner's assistant coach at FC Kärnten in 2000 . He worked for FC Kärnten until 2002. During this time, the club rose to the Bundesliga . The next stations were the FK Austria Wien and the Grazer AK , each in cooperation with head coach Schachner. Shortly after Schachner signed a contract with the German second division club TSV 1860 Munich , Gorenzel became an assistant coach there. On February 23, 2007 Gorenzel looked after the team for one game (1: 3 against FC Carl Zeiss Jena ), as Schachner was unable to attend due to a flu. After Schachner's dismissal in March 2007, Gorenzel initially remained in the coaching staff and worked with Marco Kurz . For the 2008/09 season Gorenzel became a fitness trainer with the "Löwen" and was released at the end of August 2008.

In July 2009 he started working as a trainer and sports director at the Austrian FC KAC. He then went to Russia and looked after Rubin Kazan as an assistant coach (December 2009 to April 2011).

For the 2011/12 season Gorenzel was Marco Kurz's assistant coach at 1. FC Kaiserslautern . After persistent sporting failure, Gorenzel was released from his duties together with head coach Kurz on March 20, 2012.

From the 2012/13 season he worked for the Austrian regional league team SK Austria Klagenfurt , where he was also an interim coach for a short time.

On January 1, 2013, Gorenzel took over the position of assistant coach at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim alongside Marco Kurz . On April 2, 2013, he and Marco Kurz were released from work.

From November 2014 to June 2015 he was the coach of the B-Juniors of 1860 Munich .

On May 1, 2016, he took up the position of sports director of the Carinthian Football Association, which he resigned after joining BW Linz.

In June 2017, his first position as head coach in professional football followed with the coaching job at the second division club FC Blau-Weiß Linz .

On October 23, 2017, Gorenzel was dismissed as the head coach of Blau-Weiß Linz after scoring only twelve points with BW Linz after 15 rounds.

On January 19, 2018 Gorenzel took over the position of sporting director at the regional league team TSV 1860 Munich . In February 2019 he was appointed managing director for the sporting sector.
