Günther Schartz (born July 26, 1930 in Onsdorf ; † July 1, 2007 ) was a German politician ( CDU ).

Life

Schartz was born into a rural family. The trained farmer expanded his parents' farm into a full-time business, which is still managed today by one of his sons and his family.

In 1960 he was elected to the district council of the Saarburg district. In 1971 he became a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament . From 1976 to 1994 he was a member of the German Bundestag . From 1964 until his death, Günther Schartz was the mayor of his home community Onsdorf in the Trier-Saarburg district .

From 1987 to 2005, Schartz was President of the Rhineland-Palatinate Chamber of Agriculture (LWK), whose Vice-President he had previously been for twelve years. From 1976 to 2000, Schartz was also President of the Rhineland-Nassau Farmers and Vintners Association and from 1980 to 1985 President of the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer Wine Association.

The then Rhineland-Palatinate Agriculture Minister Hans-Artur Bauckhage praised Günther Schartz on his 75th birthday on July 26, 2005 as a “personality with an extraordinary role model”, who “had written agricultural history over the past 40 years and helped the agricultural profession to achieve social security. Without these benefits, there would be neither old-age insurance for farmers nor current health, long-term care and accident insurance, according to the minister. ”He was honored with the“ Economics Council ”award.

He died after a long, serious illness. His son Günther Schartz junior is the district administrator of the Trier-Saarburg district.
