Günther Simon (doctor)

Günther Simon (born July 12, 1921 in Kassel ; † January 15, 2015 in Fulda ) was a German internist . In his practice he was particularly involved in the treatment of addicts and, later, of those infected with AIDS . He was also active in various associations.

Life

job

Even as a child, Günther Simon wanted to become a doctor. After graduating from high school, he was drafted into military service in World War II and was then a Soviet prisoner of war until 1947 . During his military service, he started studying medicine in 1941. He studied at the Humboldt University of Berlin , the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg , the University of Strasbourg , the Philipps University of Marburg and the Ruprecht Karls University of Heidelberg until he passed his state examination in Heidelberg in 1950 and received his doctorate . Before moving to the internal department of the Fulda Clinic in 1953 , he was an assistant doctor in Essen and Marburg. From 1959 to 1993 he worked as a resident doctor in Fulda. From 1969 to 1979 Simon was a teacher at the commercial vocational school in Fulda. Simon was known for his unorthodox thinking and acting, as well as for his talent for integration and organization. He was one of the first to begin focusing on the treatment of drug and alcohol addicts in 1967. His practice was the first in Hesse to purchase a device for creating an EKG . Later he was the resident doctor in Hessen who treated most of the AIDS sufferers. In 1993 he handed over the practice.

Volunteering

In 1950 he became a member of the Marburger Bund . In 1959 he joined the Association of Resident Doctors in Germany and in 1960 the Hartmannbund and the Professional Association of German Internists . From 1965 to 1993 he was a member of the examination committee or the complaints committee or the complaints committee within the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians. From 1971 to 1987 he was chairman of the Hesse state group in the professional association of German internists and from 1979 to 1993 he was head of the Fulda accounting office of the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians.

From 1972 to 1991 he was the sole organizer and program planner of the annual meetings of Hessian internists in Fulda. Most recently there were up to 2,400 participants. After him, Professor Winfried Fassbinder led the conferences.

family

Günther Simon was married. His son Jörg Simon has been running his practice since 1993. His second son, Frank, is a business ethicist and heads the North Rhine-Westphalia regional forum in the German Business Ethics Network.

Honors

The Hessian Association of Internal Medicine donated the Dr. Günther Simon Young Talent Award.
