Günther Thüry

Günther Emerich Thüry (* 1950 in Vienna ) is an Austrian provincial Roman archaeologist .

Life

Thüry studied prehistory and early history , Latin and ancient Greek at the University of Tübingen and the University of Basel . In 1977 he obtained his licentiate . During his studies, he worked as an excavation numismatist at the Office for Museums and Excavations of the Canton of Basel-Landschaft . Since 1980 he has been teaching as a university lecturer in the Department of Ancient History in the Department of Classical Studies at the Paris-Lodron University in Salzburg . He has also given courses at the University of Basel, the University of Vienna and the University of Leipzig . He also teaches as a high school teacher at the Max-Planck-Gymnasium Böblingen . Thüry is also involved in adult education and teacher training. Since 2000 he has designed and organized a double-digit number of exhibitions in Austria, Germany and Hungary. His publications range from textbooks to popular science publications and specialist articles. He has reconstructed two gardens in the Carnuntum Archeology Park . In 2007 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Basel.
