Hermann-Josef Geismann (born August 1, 1930 in Hemer ; † June 23, 2018 there ) was a German architect and politician who sat for the CDU in the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament between 1970 and 1985 . In addition, he was the last mayor of the Hemer office between 1969 and 1974 .

Life

After Hermann-Josef Geismann passed the secondary school leaving certificate in 1948 , he began an apprenticeship as a technical draftsman and bricklayer. He also trained as an engineer until 1958 and worked as an architect from then on. After working for Alwin Dossmann in Iserlohn , he later ran his own office. Art was a hobby of the Hemeraner, which is why he worked as a freelance artist in the meantime.

As chairman of the Hemer Citizens' Association and Homeland Association, he oversaw the modernization of the Felsenmeer Museum . The BHV and the Hemer House and Landowners Association appointed Geismann as honorary chairman. At the age of 73, he also acted as a site manager for renovation work at Klusenstein Castle . He also restored the listed mansions of Haus Hemer and Edelburg .

At the age of 18, Hermann-Josef Geismann joined the Junge Union , and in 1955 the CDU. He then got involved in the management of his domestic associations. Between 1960 and 1966 he was chairman of the Junge Union in the Iserlohn district, between 1966 and 1978 he headed the CDU Hemer, as deputy chairman of the CDU town and district of Iserlohn he was active from 1967 to 1979 (CDU Mark since 1974). The Young Union of his hometown Hemer made him an honorary member.

In 1970 Geismann moved into the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia for the first time. Five years later he won the election in the constituency of Iserlohn-Stadt - Iserlohn-Land II for the CDU. After the local reorganization, he won the constituency of Märkischer Kreis IV one more time in 1980 . In the following state election in 1985, however, he lost his mandate to the SPD candidate Hagen Müller . In the debate about the Sauerland / Paderborn law , he spoke out in favor of Hemer being independent from Iserlohn.

In addition to state politics, Hermann-Josef Geismann was also active in local politics. Between 1969 and 1978 he was a member of the city council of Hemer, serving as mayor for the first five of these years. In 1969 he was elected to the last district assembly of the Iserlohn district for five years . In March 1981 Geismann received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon .

Geismann came under fire in the course of the redesign of downtown Hemeran. As a public official, he received 35,000 DM from the owner of the new center, Bernhard Kleine-Frauns, at the end of 1975, as it became known in 1978. In addition, as the architect of the bidding company Erdbories, he took part in some closed meetings of the planning committee, although he was biased in the discussion about the city center and therefore should not have participated according to the municipal regulations. As a result, he had to resign his council mandate in August 1978. A month later Geismann also resigned from the chairmanship of the CDU Hemer.

Hermann-Josef Geismann died on June 23, 2018 in his hometown.
