Günther Viezenz

Günther Viezenz (born February 1, 1921 in Göhlenau ; † January 14, 1999 in Cologne ) was a German officer , most recently a colonel in the Bundeswehr . Viezenz is the most decorated soldier of the Wehrmacht, which the tank destruction badge concerns. He destroyed 21 enemy tanks as a lone fighter.

Life

Viezenz fought in the Second World War and was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on January 7, 1944 as first lieutenant and chief of the 10th company of the 7th Grenadier Regiment . He ended the war as a captain .

On April 1, 1956, Viezenz joined the Bundeswehr. He retired as a colonel on March 20, 1980.
