COUNT + ZYX
GRAF + ZYX is an artist group from Vienna and was founded in 1980 by Inge Graf and Walter Zyx . Both live and work as freelance artists in Vienna and Lower Austria. The work of GRAF + ZYX can be classified in the category of project and media art .
biography
Inge Graf (* 1949 in Vienna ) trained at the Institute for Home Education, which she graduated with a diploma. She then studied political science and journalism at the University of Vienna and since 1977 photography and film. From 1980 to 1985 she was in the master class of Oswald Oberhuber at the University of Applied Arts Vienna . In 1985 she graduated with a Mag. Art. from.
Walter Zyx (birth name Eberl, * 1950 in Vienna ) completed his training in classical violin in Vienna. He took Indian music at the Instituto Canneti in Vicenza (Italy) and was trained at the Dilruba with Acharya Manfred Heinrich Junius. He studied psychology and philosophy at the University of Vienna and has been involved in electronic music , music production and experimental video since 1980 .

activities
In 1982 the artists were founding members of “Tanztheater Wien” (dance company) and one year later they founded the label “Museum of Private Arts” (MoPA). Together with Andrea Dee, Eveline Egerer, Susanne Korab, Daniel Sandner, Carlo Hufnagl and the media theorist Alfred Smudits, in 1984 they founded the association for the promotion of media self-representation of artists, »Kunst Schwer« . In 1985 they became members of the Vienna Secession Artists' Association and from 1987 to 2000 they were represented on the board of the Secession. Together with Jana Wisniewski (artist and art journalist) and Josef Wais (artist and designer) they founded the »Stilbruch Ag« (working group for contemporary design) in 1987 . They also called the "Transmitter-X.org" (web space for interdisciplinary art projects, 2004), the "IX-O.com" (web space for anonymous art projects, 2006) and the ": (KV-N)" (association for funding contemporary interdisciplinary / multimedia art in practice and theory in virtual and real space, 2007) into life.
GRAF + ZYX published criticism of NetzNetz , the former funding model for network culture of the City of Vienna, in the form of a Dadaist multimedia website.
