Josef Wais

Josef Wais (born March 16, 1944 in Píla , Slovakia ; † July 20, 2017 in Vienna ) was an Austrian artist and designer . He lived and worked in Vienna.

Life

In 1980, Wais co-founded the Werkstätten- und Kulturhaus Wien - WUK . In the following year he founded the Photo Gallery Vienna and the KINOunser. In 1987 he founded Stilbruch AG - a working group for contemporary design - together with Jana Wisniewski and GRAF + ZYX. He is also a co-founder of the Exnergasse art gallery. His works are represented in numerous collections (including the Lentos Museum Linz, the City of Vienna's Office of Culture, the Rupertinum Collection, Salzburg, private collections, the Federal Ministry for Education and Art).
