Gabi Schmidt , née Gabi Sandmann , (born January 17, 1968 in Neustadt an der Aisch ) is a German local and state politician ( free voters ).

Life

Since 2013 she has been a member of the Bavarian State Parliament , for which she stood as a direct candidate for the district of Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim, Fürth-Land and was drawn in via the Central Franconian list of free voters. For the Free Voters she looks after the districts of Neustadt / Aisch-Bad Windsheim , Fürth , Erlangen-Höchstadt and the independent cities of Nuremberg and Fürth .

She is a member of the Education and Culture Committee in the Bavarian State Parliament and is the educational policy spokesperson for the Free Voters parliamentary group. From 2013 to 2018, Schmidt prepared a total of 198 written inquiries to the state government and gave 75 speeches in plenary. She was also involved in numerous legislative proposals.

In the state elections in October 2018, Schmidt was able to increase the number of direct votes in the constituency from 8.32 to 12.77%. In her home district she improved the result from 8.98 to 14.81%. She moved back into the state parliament. There, Schmidt is a member of the Committee for Federal and European Affairs and Regional Relations. Since November 2019 she has been Vice President of the Institute of European Democrats (IED), the party-affiliated foundation of the European Democratic Party.
