Gabriel Báthory (* 1589 ; † October 27, 1613 ) was a Transylvanian prince from the House of Báthory and ruled from 1608 to 1613. He was married to Anna Bebek.

After the war between the Habsburgs and the Turks ended in 1606 with the Peace of Zsitvatorok , Prince Stephan Bocskay suddenly died and Sigismund Rákóczi I could not hold out, Gabriel Báthory came to power.

He used the power vacuum and thus expanded his own power. Known for his hostility towards the Transylvanian Saxons , he occupied Sibiu in 1610 and had it plundered. However, the Kronstadt city judge Michael Weiss managed to organize the resistance, so that on October 16, 1612 the prince's troops were defeated in the battle of Marienburg . In this battle, in addition to Michael Weiß, 39 students from the Kronstadt Honterus grammar school died .

In 1613 the state parliament in Weißenburg (today Alba Iulia) voted him out and appointed Gabriel Bethlen as the new prince of Transylvania, which he was until 1629 . Gabriel Báthory was killed by members of his bodyguards shortly after he was voted out of office.
