Gabriel Piroird
Gabriel Jules Joseph Piroird IdP (born October 5, 1932 in Lyon , † April 3, 2019 in Lyon-Ecully) was a French clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Constantine in Algeria .
Life
Gabriel Piroird entered the secular institute Istituto del Prado and was ordained a priest on June 27, 1964 . Since 1969 he worked in Algeria as a priest in Bejaia and Kabylia , also as a hydraulic engineer.
Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Constantine on March 25, 1983. The bishop emeritus of Constantine, Jean Baptiste Joseph Scotto , donated him episcopal ordination on June 3 of the same year ; Co - consecrators were Sabin-Marie Saint-Gaudens , Bishop of Agen , and Henri Teissier , Coadjutor Archbishop of Algiers .
On November 21, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation request submitted for reasons of age.
