Paul Jacques Marie Desfarges SJ (born May 7, 1944 in Saint-Étienne ) is a French religious and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Algiers .

Life

Paul Desfarges joined the religious order of the Jesuits , was ordained a priest on June 14, 1975 and made solemn profession on April 30, 1981 .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of Constantine on November 21, 2008 . The Archbishop of Algiers, Ghaleb Moussa Abdalla Bader , donated him episcopal ordination on February 12 of the following year; Co- consecrators were his predecessor Gabriel Piroird IdP and Dominique Lebrun , Bishop of Saint-Etienne . The inauguration in the diocese took place on February 20, 2009.

On December 24, 2016, Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Algiers. The inauguration took place on February 10 of the following year. On July 8, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him a member of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue .
