The in Algeria located Archdiocese of Algiers ( lat. : Archidioecesis algeriensis ) was on 10 August 1838 as the suffragan of the archdiocese of Aix -founded and already on 25 July 1866. Archdiocese collected: His suffragan dioceses are the dioceses Constantine , Laghouat and Oran .

The end of French colonial rule and the independence of Algeria in 1962 led to a profound restructuring in the archdiocese , as in the other dioceses of Algeria . Since the population of European descent almost completely emigrated, the number of Catholics sank drastically.
