Gabriel de Broglie

Gabriel Marie Joseph Anselme de Broglie , prince de Broglie, (born April 21, 1931 in Versailles , Yvelines department ) is a French historian and statesman.

Life

De Broglie completed his schooling at a school of the oratorios of Pontoise and then studied political science at the École nationale d'administration in Strasbourg . He was able to successfully complete this study in 1960 with his dissertation on Alexis de Tocqueville . He then entered the civil service.

In 1953, de Broglie married Diane Yda de Bryas-Desmier d'Archiac in Paris and had two children with her. Her son Charles-Édouard later married a granddaughter of the writer Jean de La Varende and their daughter Priscilla became the wife of Comte Édouard de Pradel de Lamaze.

De Broglie was a member of the Council of State, advisor to several ministers and head of various broadcasters. In 1997 the Académie des sciences morales et politiques accepted him as a member and in 2001 the Académie française appointed him to succeed the late writer and politician Alain Peyrefitte ( armchair 11 ).
