Gabriela Kompatscher-Gufler

Gabriela Kompatscher-Gufler (born March 13, 1968 in Bressanone ) is an Italian classical philologist and professor of Greek and Latin studies at the University of Innsbruck .

Life

From 1987 to 1992 she studied Latin, history and archeology at the University of Innsbruck . From 1992 to 1994 she completed a doctoral degree in Latin at the University of Innsbruck and an academic training in 1994 in the department for special collections of the University Library Innsbruck . She worked at Wilten Abbey from 1994 to 1995 and at the Innsbruck University Library as part of a research project of the Fund for the Promotion of Scientific Research and the Austrian Academy of Sciences from 1995 to 1996 as a manuscript processor. Since November 1, 1996, she has been a university assistant at the Institute for Classical Philology at the University of Innsbruck. In 2003 she completed her habilitation in Innsbruck with a thesis on the Liber miraculorum by Herbert von Clairvaux and was appointed associate professor. In the autumn semester of 2008, she taught as a visiting professor at the Middle Latin Seminar at the University of Zurich . Since January 1, 2012 she has been working at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute in Innsbruck. On March 1, 2017, she was appointed head of the Institute for Languages ​​and Literatures at the University of Innsbruck.

Her work and research focuses on Middle Latin literature and language (especially late medieval entertainment literature), codicology (especially the development and analysis of Tyrolean manuscripts), relationships between humans and animals in antiquity and the Middle Ages and human-animal studies .
