Gabriele "Gabi" Badorek (born September 20, 1952 in Rostock , also Soltau-Badorek ) is a former German handball player . With the national team of the German Democratic Republic , she won the silver medal at the 1976 Summer Olympics . The back space player appeared in June 1974 under the name Soltau-Badorek.

Career

At club level Badorek played for SC Empor Rostock in the major league . After the upheaval as a result of the poor performance at the 1973 World Cup , Badorek was appointed to the national team for the first time in March 1974 for the fifth national tournament of the German Handball Association (DHV) for the DFD Cup in Neubrandenburg . With five goals in the 11:11 draw in the last tournament game against Yugoslavia , she contributed significantly to second place among six teams. On June 21, 1976 Badorek was appointed by the National Olympic Committee of the GDR in the 14-member squad of the national team for the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal , Canada . At the games at the end of July 1976 Badorek won the silver medal with the national team; the 180 cm tall and 75 kg heavy player was used in all five games and scored three hits. In February 1977 Badorek came to her last assignment for the A national team, a month later she was used in the B national team. Badorek played for her Rostock home club until at least February 1978.
