the novel

" Prima di Lasciarsi ", the author's first novel, is based on a true story about a suicide bombing in 2002 by a seventeen-year-old Palestinian girl from the Dheisheh refugee camp in a Kiryat HaYovel supermarket in Jerusalem . The book tells the last hours in the life of the assassin and her victims: a seventeen-year-old girl from Jerusalem and an Israeli security guard whose intervention on that eve of Passover saved the lives of many other supermarket visitors. The story begins at seven in the morning on the day of the assassination and ends with the fateful explosion. Despite the very short time span of only seven hours described from the perspective of the various characters, the novel attempts to depict the complex reality between Israel and Palestine .

The book was published in Italy in 2004 by Nutrimenti Publishers and received an award at the Festival du Premier Roman (Festival of the First Novel) in Chambéry , France. In 2008, the publication of the novel in Arabic and Hebrew was supported by Amnesty International and used by Israeli schools and human rights organizations for awareness-raising activities in Israel and the Palestinian territories.

In Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand the book was published under the title “ Before we say goodbye ” by the publisher Walker Books, in France as “ Douze heures avant ” and in Germany the book was published under the title “ Der Himmel über Jerusalem ”. Further editions were made in Spain, Greece, South Korea and China.
