Gabrielle Drake

Gabrielle Drake (born March 30, 1944 in Lahore , British India ) is a British theater, television and film actress .

Life

Gabrielle Drake was born in Lahore, British India, and spent the first years of her life in Burma , India and the Orient . Her father worked for an import / export company and as an engineer. At the age of eight, she returned to England with her family, who settled in Tanworth-in-Arden near Birmingham .

She received her education at Edgbaston College for girls and at Wycombe Abbey School for girls in High Wycombe , Buckinghamshire . After finishing school, she spent some time in Paris as an au pair with a family with four children. On her return she received classical acting training in Shakespeare roles at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) . With a group of university graduates, she agreed that the Hope Hall cinema, the Liverpool scene, would be suitable as a building for the theater. She stayed for three years and was the youngest acting member during the reopening season of the famous Malvern Theater Company . She then attended the Birmingham Repertory Company and improved her acting skills at Manchester's Royal Exchange , Bristol Old Vic , New Shakespeare Company and The Young Vic Theaters.

She made her television debut on March 10, 1963 in the first season of the 30-minute comedy series Best of Friends in the tenth episode (Jack in the Box) .

Her first role in a film was in The Man outside in 1967 .

She became better known in the role of Lt. Gay Ellis, commander of the lunar base in the British science fiction - television series UFO . The costumes in gray and silver, as well as the purple wigs, contributed greatly to her success as a sex symbol. After changing studios and almost half of the 26 episodes, it was no longer available for production. The role of commander of the lunar base was given to Lt. Nina Barry ( Dolores Mantez ) occupied.

Drake currently lives in the small town of Much Wenlock , Shropshire 11 miles southeast of Shrewsbury and continues to guest star on television - and on stage.

She is the older sister of Nick Drake , the singer and composer who died on November 25, 1974 of an overdose of antidepressants .
