The Gairezi (Luenha) on the border between Mozambique and Zimbabwe |
The Luenha is a river in Mozambique . It rises as Gairezi in Zimbabwe and is a tributary of the Zambezi .
course
The river, known in its upper reaches as Gairezi, has its source on the slopes of Inyangani near the city of Nyanga . It initially flows in a north-easterly direction until it meets the border with Mozambique, which it forms from there for about 100 km to the north. Then it changes its course again in a northeasterly direction, away from the border, and a little later takes on its left tributary Ruenya . Here he changes his name to Luenha. It continues in this direction until it meets the Mazowe coming from the west , which is its largest tributary. It swings to the east and flows into the Zambezi about 50 km further, about 30 km southeast of the city of Tete , on the border between the province of Manica and the province of Tete .
Hydrology
The flow rate of the river was measured at the mouth in m³ / s (values read from the diagram).
Naming
In many sources the Mazowe and the Luenha are equated, although they are two different rivers. Whether the Mazowe flows into the Luenha or vice versa is often shown differently. Most of the official maps designate the Luenha as the main river.
