from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gaius Bruttius Praesens Lucius Fulvius Rusticus († 140 in Rome) was a member of the gens Bruttia from Lucania .

After an initially slow senatorial career, Bruttius was promoted by Hadrian . Previously he was triumvir capitalis (head of the prisons), tribunus laticlavius (military tribune with a “wide purple border” on the tunic ) and quaestor in an unknown province. His wife was Laberia Crispina . Around 114 he was honored as a legate of the legio VI Ferrata in the war against the Parthian Empire . After Hadrian came to power, Bruttius was appointed governor of Cilicia . By military diplomas is evidence that it 118 or 119 (or 120 or 121) along with Quintus Aburnius Caedicianus first consul was. From 121 to 124 he was legate of Cappadocia . Further diplomas prove that he was governor of the Roman province of Moesia inferior (Lower Moesia ) on June 1, 125 and August 20, 127 ; his tenure in the province probably lasted from 124 to 128. He was also the proconsul of Africa , where two equestrian statues were erected for him - possibly around 133. He then received a special mission in Syria (138). Another diploma, dated February 13, 139, proves that he was in 139 together with Antoninus Pius for the second time full consul; possibly he is also listed as consul in an inscription dated April 8, 139. Bruttius died in 140 while attending the city prefecture .

Bruttius' son of the same name was consul in 153 and 180, while his granddaughter Bruttia Crispina was married to Emperor Commodus .
