The Caspian snowdrop ( Galanthus transcaucasicus ), also known as the Transcaucasian snowdrop , is a species of snowdrop ( Galanthus ) in the Amaryllis family (Amaryllidaceae).

The Caspian snowdrop is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 6 to 20 centimeters. This geophyte forms an onion as a persistence organ. The leaves measure 7 to 20 (27) × usually 1.5 to 2.3 (1 to 2.5) centimeters at flowering time. They are deep green, dull or very slightly bluish in color. The inner bracts have a v to u-shaped green spot rounded at the top only at the tip.

The flowering period extends from December to April.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

Occurrence

The Caspian snowdrop occurs in the eastern Caucasus , in Armenia , in Azerbaijan and in northern Iran in deciduous forests and forest edges on moist soils at altitudes of up to 2000 meters.

use

The Caspian snowdrop is probably not yet used as an ornamental plant in Germany . It may have been in culture since 1868, but at the latest since 1990.
