The galleon perch ( Dichistius ( Gr .: Dichao = divided into two parts), Syn .: Coranicus ) are a genus of small, perch-related marine fish. They occur near the coast, also in brackish water , in the southeast Atlantic and in the southwest Indian Ocean around southern Africa and near Madagascar .

Galleon bass grow to be 35 to 89 centimeters long and weigh between 1.7 and 6 kg. They are relatively high back. The first dorsal fin, supported by fin spines, is lower than the second, from which it is separated by an indentation. The dorsal fins are supported by a total of ten hard and 18 to 23 soft rays. The anal fin has three fin spines and 13 to 14 soft rays. The mouth is small and has incisor-like teeth. The gill membranes have grown together on the underside of the body.
