The Galerie am Ratswall is a museum in Bitterfeld-Wolfen . It was founded in December 1990 as an institution in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district .
history
Today's museum was built in 1925 as a warehouse for colonial goods for the Bitterfeld coffee merchant and city councilor Albert Richter (1853–1939); the usable area at that time was 1,800 square meters.
Since the reunification the building functions as an art museum . The museum's exhibitions are mainly dedicated to contemporary Saxon-Anhalt artists. It deals with photography , graphics , painting and sculpture as well as performing arts and applied arts . Works by Joseph Beuys , Robert Rauschenberg (USA), AR Penck and Klaus Staeck could be acquired.
In addition, author readings , art talks and chamber music performances take place in the museum . So occurred in the premises u. a. Quintessenz , the Ensemble Sortisatio , the Döring Wind Quintet , the Wiener Glasharmonika Duo , the Leipzig Synagogal Choir , the pianist Tomoko Masur , the singer Christine Wolff and the guitarist Reinbert Evers .
