Gambro AB ( Gamla Brogatans Sjukvårdsaffär Aktiebolag ) is a global medical technology company in the field of dialysis technology. Gamla Brogatans Sjukvårdsaffär stands for: Company for medical supplies on the old bridge road. The Swedish group based in Lund employs 7,000 people and is a provider of products and services in the field of chronic and acute kidney replacement therapy ( dialysis ) as well as liver replacement therapy .

Gambro was founded in 1964 by Holger Crafoord in order to exploit the economic potential of the development of Nils Alwall .

With its production facilities in eleven countries, sales in 100 and sales companies in more than 40 countries, the company offers products and services for patients, doctors and nursing staff. The group's largest production facility is located in Hechingen in Baden-Württemberg and, with 1,400 employees, is the town's largest employer. Other German branches are a production facility in Rostock and a sales company in Unterschleißheim near Munich.

2006 Gambro was Indap AB , a company in which Investor AB and the private equity company EQT is involved, adopted. In 2007 Gambro sold the remaining dialysis centers (Gambro Healthcare) to the holding company Bridgepoint, which continues to operate them under the name Diaverum. On December 4, 2012, Baxter International announced the acquisition of Gambro for a purchase price of around EUR 3 billion.

The abbreviation “AK” of the device names (AK 100, AK 200 etc.) stands for “artificial kidney”, in German: artificial kidney.
