Paulino Uzcudun Eizmendi (born May 3, 1899 in Régil ; † July 5, 1985 ) was a Basque and was one of the most important Spanish heavyweight boxers .

In the USA he was only known by his first name Paulino . He was famous for his chin and punching power, but he lacked boxing technique.

His most famous opponents include the world champions Joe Louis , Max Schmeling , Primo Carnera , Tommy Loughran and Mickey Walker , to whom he was defeated.

His most significant victories came against Max Baer , whom he beat on points over twenty rounds, and Harry Wills , whom he defeated by knockout . At the time, however, Max Baer was only 22 years old and still very inexperienced and Harry Wills had already passed his zenith by the age of 38.

Before he started his professional career, Uzcudun was a butcher . At the end of his career he could look back on 50 wins (34 of them by knockout) and 17 defeats. He lost to Max Schmeling in New York in 1929, managed a flattering draw in Spain in 1934 and lost on July 7, 1935 in the Berlin Post Stadium . In his last fight in 1935 against Joe Louis, he suffered his only knockout defeat.
