action

narrative

Episode 1 follows on from the events of the end of the season of the third television season (Red Wedding). It serves to introduce the five main characters and the basic dilemma of the House of Forrester, which is to be solved in the following episodes.

Characters

During the course of the game, the player will be able to control a member of the Forresters (either a family member or a servant) with whom he can influence the other characters and the plot. The following characters will be present in the game (as playable and non-player characters ):

  • Lord Gregor Forrester
  • Lady Elissa Forrester
  • Rodrik Forrester
  • Mira Forrester
  • Talia Forrester
  • Ethan Forrester
  • Ryon Forrester
  • Asher Forrester
  • Maester Ortengryn
  • Ser Royland Degore
  • Duncan Tuttle
  • Gared Tuttle
  • Malcolm Branfeld

Gameplay

The gameplay of Game of Thrones is based on point-and-click adventures , but dispenses with puzzles. Instead, the focus is on the narration of a film-like staged plot. The player can mainly influence the dialogues of the game, with which smaller variations can be brought into the otherwise linear plot. There are also quick-time events . Like the tale series The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us , Game of Thrones is divided into episodes. In addition, the player can move freely in many scenes and converse with the other characters in the game, which are also features from The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us .

Episodes

The game is split into six episodes that were released at irregular intervals.

development

After the previous Game of Thrones games, which received rather mediocre to negative ratings, George RR Martin wanted a game that “came from a studio that knows how to create exciting and interesting stories”. While searching, he came across Telltale Games, which had previously had great success with licensed adventure games such as The Walking Dead and Jurassic Park: The Game . After a year of discussion with HBO, the developers were given the rights to the Game of Thrones game. During the development of the game, Martin's personal assistant Ty Franck worked as a story advisor. Studio manager Colum Slevin described it as Telltale's primary design goal to use the game to achieve an emotional and narrative impact similar to that of films. An optical design that is as realistic as possible would not be the focus. Unlike the previous Telltale episode games, Game of Thrones also designed six instead of five episodes.
